Retouching is the art of correcting faults in an existing photograph. Of course "faults" are in the eye of the beholder. For our purposes, "faults" are those things that you want corrected. One example is "head switches," in which a person's head is transferred from one photograph to another. This technique is most often used for instances when, in a family portrait for example, four of the five people look great, but one family member looked sideways, or sneezed, etc. That person's head can be replaced by a different shot of the same person, saving the photograph.

We Offer 3 Retouching Levels: Basic, Extensive & Artistic.

Basic retouching includes: Adjusting color saturation and brightness, softening of maturity lines, removal of bags under the eyes, removal of moles or scars (at the customer's request), blending of blotchy skin and removal of shine, and stray hair removal. Basic retouching is included in all Lake of the Woods photos at no extra charge.

Extensive retouching includes: Removing the glare from eyeglasses, extensive hair removal, removal of braces, addition of teeth, correction of closed eyes, and simple head switches. The cost of this retouching varies with the individual photograph.

Artistic retouching includes: Window glare removal, removal of things such as bra straps, addition or removal of people in the photograph, complicated head switches, and complete replacement of the existing background. This is very time-intensive and is charged at an hourly rate.

Our retouching services are only applicable to photographs taken by Lake of the Woods Photographers and photographs the customer owns all intellectual property rights to.

Photographic restoration is the art of repairing damaged photographs. Time takes its toll on photos in many ways and fading, flaking, cracking, holes and tears often occur. At Lake of the Woods Photographers, we have the necessary technology on hand to correct all of these problems and more.

We are fully capable of undoing the effects of time as well as damage done to the photograph by trimming, tape and photo album corners, disasters (such as fires and floods), and writing on the surface of the photo, and restoring your photographs to pristine, re-printable condition.

During the course of a restoration project, we promise your original photograph will never leave the studio. We will digitally scan or copy your original photo in-studio, place it in a protective sleeve for safekeeping until project completion, and then work on the digital copy of the original only. After restoring the photo to desired condition, new prints may be made from the digital file in any of our standard print sizes.

Digital restoration of your precious memories is a time-intensive operation. All work is done on an estimation basis, for the restoration time itself, and prints made at our normal unit prices. As with retouching, our restoration services are only applicable to photographs taken by Lake of the Woods Photographers and photographs the customer owns all intellectual property rights to.
